Navigation tile/Portlet

You will need this information when you have added a Navigation tile/portlet, and wish to populate it for the first time, or edit it.

The navigation tile/portlet is for listing a number of items of content from the same section, to allow a user to navigate to sub content of a section.

  1. Whilst the Navigation tile, and Navigation portlet perform in a similar way, the route for adding content to each is different:
    1. Navigation tile;
      1. In the 'Compose' view, you will see that your Navigation tile/portlet is empty (unless you are coming back to edit it!). To populate the Navigation tile/portlet, you will need to hover over the tile/portlet until you see the blue 'Edit' button in the top left, and then click on it.
    2. Navigation portlet;

      1. Click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the page you wish to host the Navigation portlet.

      2. Select Manage portlets from the dropdown menu.

      3. From the portlets drop down menu, click on Navigation.

  2. The headed sections in the Navigation tile/portlet edit interface will be:
  3. Content
    1. Title
      1. This will be situated above the items in the navigation.
    2. Use root path title as a header
      1. If this box is checked, it will use the title of the section that the root path of the navigation is linked to, as the title of the navigation.
    3. 'Root path of the navigation'
      1. Define the root path of the folder that you would like to show the content from. This should be inout as so; '..../***section***   - You only require the part of the URL that is listed after (and including) the first '/'.
    4. 'Navigation style'
      1. This menu gives you the option to choose between 4 different navigation styles.
    5. 'Show item descriptions' (tile only)
      1. If this box is checked the description (if present) of the item of content will be displayed under the title.
    6. 'Top level limit' (tile only)
      1. This is used if you are listing a section that is updated constantly and you wish to give a dynamic menu.
    7. 'Read more link text' (tile only)
      1. This is the text that will be displayed on a button beneath the items in the navigation, if there are more than are being displayed.
  4. Filters
    1. Filtered out content types
      1. This field allows you to specify which types of content will be displayed in the navigation tile/portlet 
  5. Style

    1. Box border

      1. This feature allows the user to deploy a border of their choice on either or both sides of the navigation tile/portlet.

    2. Box type

      1. This feature allows the user to deploy a highlighted background to the navigation tile/portlet. 

  6. When using a portlet, there is an additional headed section in the Navigation edit interface:

  7. Advanced;

    1. Show only for sub-items

      1. Check this box if you would like to add the portlet at a section level, and define that it shows only on all the items in the section, rather than on the section as well. Editing content in the latest news tile/portlet:

  1. When editing the Navigation tile;

    1. Go to the 'Compose' view of the Cover page, navigate to the Navigation tile/portlet, and hover your cursor over it, the blue 'Edit' button will appear in the top left, click this and edit any of the fields you would like to.

  2. When editing the Navigation portlet;

    1. Click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the correct page, which hosts the portlets in question.

    2. Select ‘Manage portlets’ from the dropdown menu.
    3. Click onto the portlet you wish to and edit any of the fields you would like to.
  1. If you wish to remove the Navigation tile/portlet, navigate to the 'Layout' view of the cover page, and click 'x' in the top left of the tile/portlet. When deleting a tile/portlet, the tile/portlet you are selecting has a red border.

  1. If you wish to remove the Navigation portlet, click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the correct page, which hosts the portlets in question.

  2. Select ‘Manage portlets’ from the dropdown menu

  3. Click on the X button, next to the portlet you wish to delete.
