Embed tile/portlet
You will need this information if you wish to add an Embed tile/portlet, and wish to populate it for the first time, or edit it.
What is the Embed tile/portlet?
The embed tile/portlet is designed for you to be able to embed different types of media from different providers, for example a Google Map, a YouTube video, or a podcast from the Oxford Podcasts website.
Adding content in the Embed tile/portlet:
- Whilst the embed tile, and embed portlet perform in a similar way, the route for adding content to each is different:
- Embed tile;
- In the Compose view, you will see that your Embed tile/portlet is empty (unless you are coming back to edit it!). To populate the Embed tile/portlet, you will need to hover over the tile/portlet until you see the blue Edit button in the top left, and then click on it.
Embed portlet;
Click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the page you wish to host the Embed portlet.
Select Manage portlets from the dropdown menu.
From the portlets drop down menu, click on Embed
- Embed tile;
- The headed sections in the Embed tile/portlet edit interface are:
- Content;
- Embedding code
- In here paste the code that you wish to embed, for example a Youtube video, or a sound bite from Soundcloud.
- Title
- This title will go above the embedded item.
- Description
- This will appear in a shaded box under the embedded item.
- Embedding code
- Style;
Box border
This feature allows the user to deploy a border of their choice on either or both sides of the embed portlet.
Box type
This feature allows the user to deploy a highlighted background to the embed portlet.
- When using a portlet, there is one additional headed section in the Embed edit interface:

Show only for sub-items
Check this box if you would like to add the portlet at a section level, and define that it shows only on all the items in the section, rather than on the section as well.Editing content in the embed tile/portlet:
Editing content in the Embed tile/portlet:
When editing the embed tile;
Go to the Compose view of the Cover page, navigate to the embed tile/portlet, and hover your cursor over it, the blue Edit button will appear in the top left, click this and edit any of the fields you would like to.
When editing the embed portlet;
Click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the correct page, which hosts the portlets in question.
Select Manage portlets from the dropdown menu.
Click onto the portlet you wish to edit edit any of the fields you would like to.
Removing the Embed tile:
- If you wish to remove the Embed tile/portlet, navigate to the Layout view of the cover page, and click x in the top left of the tile. When deleting a tile, the tile you are selecting has a red border.
Removing the Embed portlet:
If you wish to remove the Embed portlet, click on your name in the top right of the edit bar to access the drop-down menu, ensuring that you are on the correct page, which hosts the portlets in question.
Select Manage portlets from the dropdown menu
Click on the X button, next to the portlet you wish to delete.
