Feature description

Item preview

When you add or edit a question in the question bank, you can now preview how it will be presented to a candidate when taking the exam in P4B. For remote OSCE assessments you can also choose perspective, meaning you can check what the station will look like if you are a candidate, an examiner or a simulated patient.

The preview is interactive - you can experience how the candidate would answer each question type. You can also check the resources and interact with them, though the video and audio will not allow you to play them.

For question authors and for early QA of questions the item preview eliminates the need to create an assessment and run it each time they wish to check how their item will appear to the candidates.

Scroll to load blueprint categories

Blueprint categories in the master blueprint are now easily accessible by continued scrolling rather than awaiting the loading of the next page.

Image synchronisation

The image synchronisation is a new way of supporting the collaboration between examiner and candidate during a remote OSCE. It allows multiple users to open the same resource and broadcast their interactions (measuring, zooming, drawing etc) with the other parties.

Candidates can indicate areas of X-rays they wish to discuss, show how they take measurements on a DICOM image, etc. and all the candidates actions can be seen on the examiner screen in real time. The examiner can observe the candidate’s interaction with the resource.

Examiners can take control of the resource and ask specific questions of the candidate.

Image synchronisation will be useful in any exam where the resource is central to the assessment and the interaction around the resource best emulates a real life situation.

The setting is available in the exam details at the point of creating the exam.

Marking of written items (SAQ/MWQ/VSAQ/Prescribing)

We have improved the way to set the marking type. You can:

  • Choose between single, single with reviewer, double, double with reviewer and double with senior marker

  • Preset the marking type for the whole assessment in the exam details

  • Set the marking type for the whole assessment or per item once it is ready to mark

  • Easily filter your items by item type or other applicable blueprint dimensions and select the marking type by the filtered criteria

Note: For VSAQ/PVSA single and single with reviewer are available as marking types.

We have improved the way to assign markers. You can assign:

  • Marker pools. This allows administrators to create a pool of markers who can mark as many candidates as they wish

  • Individual markers. This allows administrators to easily assign markers to specific items

  • Creating cohorts of candidates is simply done at the point of assigning markers. Creating cohorts will divide the candidates up amongst the examiners.

  • At the point of assigning a marker, the administrator can filter the markers based on any applicable blueprint dimensions (i.e. specialty) ensuring that markers are not assigned inappropriately.

The user interface will clearly inform the user if any markers/reviewers are missing, have been incorrectly assigned and until marking has started, you can easily change your assignments.

We have the following roles in marking:

The marker can access their dashboard and from there easily get an overview of items and candidates available for them to mark.

The reviewer - is not a marker. They can view marks but they can not enter or modify marks. Only marks confirmed by the marker will be available for review.

Senior marker - enters a final mark for double marked items when the marks given are outside the allowable marking discrepancy. Marks within the allowable discrepancy are automatically averaged by the system.
